This is a chromate-plated clutch arm return spring for 4-speed ratchet-top transmissions.
By attaching the spring to the fulcrum of the clutch release arm, the clutch returns under tension, preventing the throw-out bearing from shattering, a common problem with suicide clutches.
This is an excellent part designed with functionality in mind.
